Adhunika Naithani
Expertise in foreign language can be a full-fledged career

I am soon going to write engineering entrance tests...I have applied for AIEEE, EAMCET and Manipal engineering tests. Which of these should I give more importance to? Also, my family might move to Pune, is there any good engineering college I can join in case I move. Which test will I have to write for that?- Payal, 18
All the exams are equally important and you should be prepared well for all of them. Whereas test like EAMCET Manipal Engineering test will make you eligible only for admissions in Andhra Pradesh and Manipal College of Engineering respectively.

If your family is planning to shift base to Pune, you may give write MHT-CET, common test for engineering colleges in Maharashtra. It will make you eligible for all government, Aided & Unaided engineering universities/

My younger sister is learning Japanese language. She says she will learn several other foreign languages as well. I wonder if she can make a good career after learning these languages. Please tell if learning a foreign language is only for fun or some career can be charted out of it. - Syed, 23

We live in a global world and India expanding its overseas trade, skills in foreign languages can be turned into a full-fledged career. There are various careers options that your sister can look for i.e. she can work as a translator, interpreter, language teacher or a linguistic.

There are some jobs where a combination of languages and other qualifications and skills are needed like IT, marketing and sales, finance, law, etc she can even opt for these careers if she wants.

The remuneration that she can expect depends on the work she does and the skills she possesses. But still she can expect a salary package of 2-3 lakhs. If she plans to enter the corporate sector she can expect an even better salary package.
